PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Purpose of Module:
The purpose of this module is to learn the principles of preventive medicine.
Time to complete overview of Preventive Medicine: 1 hour
You must spend at least 1/2 hour doing hands-on training.
- Read the training objectives.
- Read Tactical Emergency Care, pp.248-269.
- Read EFMB Manual chapter 5.
- Use the MED EMT computer based training software and complete chapter 12,
section 4.
- Perform treatment for both cold and heat injuries using an adult mannequin.
- Take the posttest.
- Give module back to instructor or person in charge.
Training Objectives
- Outline the risks of heat injury, and describe the strategies to minimize
the risk.
- Outline the risks of heat injury, and describe the strategies to minimize
the risk.
- Describe the principles of safe food handling, serving and storage.
- Describe the major types of tactical field latrines and the situations for
which they are suited.
- Describe the principles of vector control.
- Describe the importance of good personal hygiene and hand washing in the
prevention of disease.
Activities to Perform

section 4.
- Demonstrate treatment techniques for cold and heat injury.
- Take the posttest to give yourself feedback on this module.
Posttest
