Purpose of Module:
The purpose of this module is to review the assessment process and perform a scene assessment of hazards, injuries, and available resources.
Time to Complete Blasts and Burns Module: 2 hours
Directions for Using the Blasts and Burns Module:
* You must spend at least 1 hour doing hands-on training. This module is designed to train you on your ability to use all of the previous training in a multitrauma scenario.
1. Read the training objectives.
2. Review Brady Emergency Care, Eighth Edition pp. 526, 528-537, 840-841.
3. Watch the video tape by Mosby "EMT-Basic Video Series Module 5 Burns "
4. Review handout on "Blast Injuries" in the back of this module.
5. Use the MED EMT computer based training software and complete Chapter 14, Section 4.
6. Use a partner and take turns creating multitrauma scenarios and work together to manage patient care. Take turns being in charge of the patients care. Focus on the tasks that are the most difficult for you.
7. Use all previous checklists & practice burn and blast management on the adult mannequin.
8. Take the posttest.
9. Give the module back to the instructor or person in charge.
Training Objectives:
1. List the classifications of burns.
2. Define superficial, partial thickness, and full thickness burns.
3. List the characteristics of superficial, partial thickness, and full thickness burns.
4. Describe the emergency medical care of a patient with superficial, partial thickness, and full thickness burns.
5. Describe the emergency care for a chemical burn.
6. Describe the emergency care for an electrical burn.
7. Describe the three factors involved in blast injuries and how they relate to patient assessment.
Activities to Perform:

2. Use the MED EMT computer based training software and complete Chapter 14, Section 4.
3. Use all previous checklists & practice burn and blast management on the adult mannequin.
