Task

Transport a casualty using an appropriate one-man carry.

Conditions

You have evaluated and given first aid to a casualty. You need to move the casualty to get further medical aid. No help is available.

Standard

Select a carry which is appropriate to the situation and transport the casualty without causing further unnecessary injury.

Student Equipment

Pistol belt or strips of cloth (if instructing pistol belt carry)

Scenario

You will need another soldier to play the part of the casualty. Tell the casualty what the injuries are and whether they are conscious or unconscious. Obtain appropriate materials (pistol belt or strips of cloth) as necessary to test the carries. Tell the soldier that the casualty has been given first aid. Describe a situation in terms of the casualty’s injuries, whether the casualty is conscious or unconscious, whether they are in a life threatening situation, and what distance (short, moderate, or long) the casualty must be moved.
